Following you will find the actual Texas state legislation H.C.R. No. 97 for the Official Lone Star Cut adopted by the House on March 13, 1977 and the Senate on May 20, 1977.  Since Topaz is the state gem of Texas, thanks to Mason County, Blue Topaz is the preferred gemstone to produce the Lone Star Cut.

When looking for Lone Star cuts, you will find several different kinds of 'star' cuts from various cutting houses, but if you look very carefully, they are not the official Lone Star Cut.   They will be some variation of a standard star cut which do not have the same facet design as the Lone Star Cut.  Star cuts are easier to cut since they do not have the facet meet points needed for the Lone Star cut, which has 7 facets that must meet at precisely at the right places.  If the facets of the Lone Star cut are off just a very small amount, the star will not be symmetrical.  Placed next to one that we cut, ours will be noticeably brighter, more symmetrical, and will be a gemstone you would give your mother.
